Health is wealth and having a healthier lifestyle is a journey, not a destination. For me, it began with a shocking realization about my body. As a small and fit woman, I thought I had a good handle on my health. I didn’t drink coffee, barely touched soda, and is cautious about juices. I always made sure to monitor my intake assuming I was doing enough to keep myself in good shape. But when I got my numbers back, I was stunned. My blood pressure and other health markers were off the charts, and my kidneys were starting to show signs of strain.
That was my wake-up call. It was time to take my health more seriously.
A Healthier Approach: Diet and Movement
It was clear I needed to make some serious changes. After some reflection, we decided to revamp our diet completely and start walking more regularly. One of the most significant changes I made was cooking most of our meals from scratch. Although it’s time-consuming and requires more effort, it has completely transformed how I feel. I quickly noticed the changes towards my daily routine and my body has completely refused to the old habits.
I soon realized that processed foods no longer agreed with me. Whenever I eat them I always experience a tummy ache. Something I never had to worry about before. This was a huge turning point in my health journey. I felt more connected to my food, more in control of what I was putting into my body, and overall, I felt much better.
My Global Food Journey
As someone who enjoys traveling extensively, I’ve had the privilege of enjoying international cuisines that are fresh, flavorful, and often much lighter than the heavy, processed foods I was used to in the United States. You’ll often hear me rave about the vibrant international food scene. However, one thing that stands out to me is how different the food tastes when I return to the U.S. Sometimes even something as simple as a banana can feel overwhelmingly heavy and unhealthy.
I can honestly say that I’ve grown to appreciate how much better food can taste when it’s natural, and not packed with preservatives or additives. It’s made me much more conscious of what I choose to put on my plate and how it affects my body.
Organic and Beyond
Though I haven’t fully switched to organic foods yet, it’s definitely on my to-do list. I’m learning more about the benefits of organic produce and how it supports both my health and the environment. It’s an ongoing process, and I’m excited to see how this change will further enhance my wellness.
Growing My Own Garden
One of my next big steps in this health journey is starting my own garden. I’m not exactly a natural when it comes to planting and have been known to have a brown thumb. But I’m determined to give it another try. I want to learn how to grow my own herbs, vegetables, and fruits to ensure that I have access to fresh, nutritious produce right from my own backyard. I’m really into the “from farm to table trend”. I know the process of gardening may be challenging, but I’m excited to embrace the learning curve and take control of what I consume.
Healthier Lifestyle for the Whole Family
And then there’s cooking. I’ve discovered that preparing healthy meals doesn’t have to mean sacrificing flavor. In fact, I’ve found ways to make nutritious meals that even toddlers can’t resist! I’m excited to share some of my favorite recipes and tips for making healthy, delicious meals that the whole family can enjoy.
So, join me on this journey as I continue to explore how to live a healthier life. From cooking from scratch and gardening to staying active and learning about organic foods, I’m excited to share my experiences, lessons learned, and the challenges I face along the way. Together, we can make healthier choices and create a lifestyle that nourishes both our bodies and our minds. Let’s get started!
